"Word is software that lets you create documents on a computer. You can use Word to create beautiful text using colorful photographs or illustrations as pictures or as a background, and add figures such as maps and tables. Moreover, Word provides various helper features for creating text so that you can complete business documents, such as articles or reports, with ease. You can also print postcard or envelope addresses." -- from the Microsoft website
For the past several years, RCPS has been using Microsoft Office version 2003 on Windows computers and 2004 on Macintosh computers. Typical files created in these versions end in .doc (Word), .ppt (Powerpoint), and .xls (Excel). Microsoft released version 2007 for Windows and 2008 for Macintosh which create documents in a newer format: .docx (Word), .pptx (Powerpoint), and .xlsx (Excel). RCPS computers which still have Office 2003 or Office 2004 cannot open the documents created by the newest versions.
