Fairview School (Plains)

The Fairview School in Plains District was located on the east side of the Mountain Road (Route 620 ) a short distance north of the Mountain Valley Church. The land for the Fairview School was deeded to the Plains District School Board on August 21, 1877 and a one-room school was built. About 1903, the school was remodeled and a second room was added. Early teachers known to have taught at the Fairview School were Fannie R. Stanley (1881-82), S. Fannie Speck (1882-83, 1883-84) , T. A. Winfield (1884-85), and J. B. Sheffer (1901-02). The Fairview School served the community until 1951 when it was closed and the students transported to the Tenth Legion school. The school population did not always justify a second teacher so, for some years, the school was reduced to a one-teacher school. Teachers known to have taught at the Fairview school were:
