Mt. Arie School

The Mt. Arie school was located a short distance west of Coakleytown in Ashby District. The school was often known as the Coakleytown school. The school was one of two schools in the immediate area. The Oakland View school was located several miles to the east. When the Mt. Arie school closed the students were sent to the Oakland View school. The school is indicated but not named in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The Mt. Arie school was a one-room frame building constructed in 1878. The earliest teachers at Mt. Arie are unknown. Teachers known to have taught at Mt. Arie were:

1904-1909 Hattie Morris (Coakley)

1909-10 Effie M. Bowman
