Hinton (Summit)

The original school at Hinton was called the Summit school. The school was located on the north side of the Rawley Turnpike in the village of Hinton. The date of construction of this early school is not known but the school is shown in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. On September 19 1898, land for a new building near the old school was deeded to the Central District school trustees by G. M. and Nova Strickler. This one-room building served the school until 1922 when it was closed and the students sent to Dale Enterprize and Mt. Clinton.
