The Friedens school was one of the oldest schools in Rockingham, constructed about 1840 on the Frieden's Church lot in Ashby District. The school was owned by "the neighborhood" and never deeded to the Ashby District School Board. The school was incorporated into the Rockingham County School system in 1872. Early teachers at Frieden's are unknown. According to school records, the building was moved in the fall of 1909 "to the corner of Samuel Slusser's field", about a half mile up the road toward Pleasant Valley. The school is shown in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County and is noted as School #16. The Friedens school was closed in 1915. Teachers known to have taught at Friedens are:
-02 Jeff D, Will
-10 Anna R. Stickley
-12 Elizabeth Pence
-13 Bessie Crawford
-14 Catherine Flory
-15 Myrtle Bauserman
