Franklin School

The Franklin School was a one-room school located west of Rushville near Clover Hill. The school was located next to Buttermilk Run, a tributary of Dry River. The Franklin school was built in 1886 on land deeded to the Ashby District school trustees by Samuel C. Funk and wife on September 6, 1886. There may have been an earlier school at the same location since the school is indicated in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The only early teacher known to have taught at Franklin school is John Brunk, who taught at Franklin during the 1890-91 school year. The Franklin school closed in 1930.
