Fairview (Ashby)

The Fairview school in Ashby District was located 1 1/2 miles southeast of the Mt. Crawford Depot and adjoined the Fairview Church lot. Land for the school was deeded to the Ashby District School Trustees on March 2, 1882 by Robert Tutwiler. The school had been built in 1881 prior to the opening of the 1881-82 school session. In 1897 the one-room school was replaced at the same location by a two-room school. The new school was built by the district and the patrons of the school as a cost to the district of $353 with an additional $48.25 for furnishings. The new building had one-room on the lower floor and one room on the upper floor. The Fairview school served the community until 1938 when it was closed. Even though the school had two rooms there was, for many years, only enough students for one teacher. Teachers known to have taught at Fairview are:
