The Concord School was located between Tenth Legion and Timberville on what is now Route 799 in an area known as "The Mash". The school was also known locally as the "Hupp" school. The school was opened in 1906 to replace the old Newdale School located about one mile to the south. The Newdale School was overcrowded and the Concord School was built to provide a school for children in the same general neighborhood. The school was built as a 3-room school but, according to Superintendent George Hulvey in the 1914 Public Schools of Rockingham County,"Concord, a few miles from Mayland, is also a three-room frame building, but supporting only a double school. The population is sparse and the mistake in building three rooms is now apparent." The Concord School operated until 1929, when the school was closed and the students sent to Mayland and Timberville.
