Brock's Creek School

The Brock's Creek School opened in the spring of 1908 on one acre of land deeded to the Linville District School Board by J. F. Shoemaker and wife (deed dated March 19, 1908). The building was a one room building built on one acre of land at a cost of $400. The Brock's Creek School was a consolidation of two older one-room schools: Cave Hill and Mountain Valley. The school was located about three and a half miles northwest of Singers Glen a short distance west of Frank's Store and Auto Service. . (Route 783). In 1915 a hallway and an additional room were added to the school. The primary grades were taught in the original room and the upper grades were taught in the new room. Nina Bibble has written a very interesting and informative history of the school, Memories Along Brock's Creek, where she gives detailed information about the students and teachers at the school.
