Each Rockingham County elementary school celebrated World School Milk day on Wednesday, September 30. River Bend Elementary welcomed several special guests.
Savannah Lane, Miss Virginia read books to several classes in the morning and then greeted students in the cafeteria over lunch. Several representatives from "The Southeast United Dairy Industry Association" (SUDIA) assisted in the cafeteria over lunch by distributing stickers and encouraging students to drink milk. Students had the opportunity to milk a "wooden cow". Sheldon Wood from PET (formerly Shenandoah's Pride) brought prizes for the students. Students in all grade levels were involved in the celebration by: writing acrostic poems, decorating milk cartons, or coloring dairy related pictures. Gerald Lehman, Director, Food & Nutrition Services for the division taught a nutrition lesson to 4th graders during their PE class and had the students involved in a "relay race for healthy foods".
