Destination Imagination is a program where team members use STEM (and the Arts) skills, problem solving skills, 21st Century skills, and creativity to find a solution to an open-ended challenge. The areas of focus include: Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Structural and Social Entrepreneurship. There is also a non-competitive Early Learning Challenge. Teams from Kindergarten through university level creatively solve one of seven different challenges.
Teams from John Wayland Elementary, Peak View Elementary, Wilbur Pence Middle School, Montevideo Middle School, Elkton Middle School, Spotswood High School, and Turner Ashby High School excelled at the Regional Tournament. Of the 19 teams that competed, RCPS will be sending 11 teams to the state tournament. The state tournament will be held at Atlee High School in Hanover on Saturday, April 9th. Teams placing 1st through 3rd place at the state tournament will advance to Global Finals in May. Global Finals is an international event held at the University of Tennessee with over 1,200 teams competing.
