Rockingham County Public Schools believe in creating a safe and positive environment for our students, parents and staff. Recently one of our schools faced the challenge of bed bugs. We want our community to know this issue has not been taken lightly, and extensive interventions have been, and continue to be implemented. School and division leaders, community agencies, and pest control companies have been working diligently together to ensure the issue is effectively and efficiently addressed. The Rockingham County School Board has established a task force chaired by Steve Reid, Director of Maintenance. This group will review the actions and progress of the current situation, provide input for future actions, and will assist with developing a division protocol for bed bugs. Additionally, all Rockingham County Public Schools employees are receiving information and guidance on the early detection of bed bugs. This is a proactive step to increase the chances of early intervention if bed bugs were to be introduced to a school.
In coordination with these efforts, Rockingham County Schools is working to educate families about early detection and treatment in their homes.
