Introduction

Nutrition is a very important issue in the health of any individual.  Unfortunately, too many American children do not receive the proper nutrients needed to be healthy.  As a writer for a newsletter for the Nutrition for Children Association, you hope to help correct this situation.  After completing this webquest and learning about the nutrients, food pyramid, and dietary guidelines, you will write a newsletter that will be sent to the homes of many American adolescents.

Task

Follow the process below and gather information to answer questions on the worksheet that your teacher has given to you.  Once you have gathered the information, you will write a newsletter that has two articles and a sample menu for an average 11-13 year old.  Remember this newsletter will be for parents and kids.

Get the worksheet from your teacher and read all the questions that you are to answer before you begin the webquest. 

First you are going to learn about Nutrients.

You are now ready to start working on your newsletter. Remember that your task is to write two articles that will help American adolescents understand that nutrition is a very important issue in the health of any individual.  As a writer for a newsletter for the Nutrition for Children Association, you hope to help correct this situation. You will write a newsletter that will be sent to the homes of many American adolescents.  Write the rough copies of your articles on your paper.  Remember that all good articles answer the questions who, what, where, when and why.  Have someone edit your rough copy for you and then you are ready to start the real final copy of your newsletter. Evaluation

Your newsletter will be evaluated based on the following:

Do your articles have a clear purpose and show that you understand the topic you have chosen to write about?

Did you include supporting details in the article to help the reader understand how important good nutrition is?

Do your articles include words and facts that make it interesting for your readers?

Did you include headlines that capture the reader's attention and that reflect the content?
