What does an ITRT do?

Note: At the bottom of each staff listing is a partial list of one-hour, after school inservices which can be provided at your school by the Instructional Technology Resource Teachers. To schedule an inservice, contact the ITRT via e-mail. These inservices can be used for recertification points pending approval of the principal. ITRT's can also be scheduled to come to your school to help teachers individually during non-teaching times and can provide demonstration teaching using technology with your students.

Alice Bair (office is at J. Frank Hillyard Middle School)

Dennis Durost (office is at Central Office)

Webquests, Kidpix, Inspiration and Kidspiration software, online discussion groups, webpage construction. Alice moved to the valley 4 years ago from Westminster, Maryland, where she taught 6th grade reading for many years.

Alice's students learned through technology using webquests, online literature discussion groups and Read 180. She has a Master's Degree in Reading and also teaches online graduate courses through McDaniel College, Eastern Mennonite University and PBS Teacherline. She is an Intel "Teach to the Future" Master Teacher.

Alice is NETS*T certified and can assist those interested in obtaining certification.

The creative use of technology, especially in the Elementary grades to meet education goals including those prescribed by the SOL guidelines.

Dennis is NETS*T Certified, NTTI Master Teacher, and past VSTE Educator of the Year with 30+ years in the classroom, including, university instructor, technology facilitation, and peer leadership. He excels with Smartboard, iPhoto, and United Streaming.

Doris Gardner (office is at Wilbur S. Pence Middle School)

Obe Hostetter (office is at Central Office)

Advanced features in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; AppleWorks; SOLMate; InteGrade; Easy Grade Pro; basic web pages; digital cameras and images, file maintenance, organization and special document formatting techniques.

Doris has earned her NETS*T and Microsoft Office Specialist certifications. Students and teachers appreciate her willingness to help and her patience.

Web searches for classroom content, PowerPoints, SmartBoards, United Streaming, Quia assessments and multimedia.

Obe is NETS*T certified, Smartboard Exemplary Educator, was JFHMS Teacher of the Year and won the Governor's Innovative Technology grant for outstanding integration of technology in the classroom. He has presented at JMU, EMU, VEMA, VSTE, and VDOE Conferences. He is known for his ability to assist teachers in bringing SOL lessons alive especially through the use of games.

  • Advanced PowerPoint (get away from adding distracting bells and whistles…customize your PowerPoint presentations by adding meaningful charts, tables, graphics, video clips, links to other slides, files, web pages, etc. to create more professional presentations)
  • Develop practice SOL questions and/or assessments using SOL Mate
  • Create a Simple Web Page: Create, update, and post a simple home page in First Class
  • Update your homework hotline (attach study sheets, homework assignments, etc. in a standard format that all visitors can easily read)
  • Easy Grade Pro: Set up your gradebook and create progress reports in Easy Grade Pro (middle schools)
  • InteGrade Pro: Set up your gradebook and create progress reports in InteGrade Pro (high schools)
  • Portaportals: Create an online bookmarking system with guest access
  • Sharing Helpful Hints for Computer 7 & 8 teachers

Inservice topics:

Kevin Perkins (office is at Central Office)

Lynne Pike (office is at Elkton Middle School)

Kevin brings experience in the high school math classroom to the ITRT staff and assists with software installation, Smartboard lesson location and creation, internet based instruction and web searches for math and technology. He also provides support PowerTeacher Gradebook and Moodle.

He will be making weekly in-house visits to BHS, CRES, OES and PKVES during the 2011 - 2012 school year according to this schedule. Kevin is NETS*T certified and can assist those interested in obtaining certification.

Internet safety, searches and bookmarking, web site development, digital storytelling, stop motion animation and claymation, KidPix, UnitedStreaming, Mac iLife applications. Training in hardware, including Mac OSX, document camera, Garmin gps, Flip camcorder, and Senteo clickers.

Lynne is NETS*T certified and is a NTTI Master Teacher. She has taught elementary school and middle school science and developed a K-8 science education program for a Florida planetarium.

Joe Showker (office is at Montevideo Middle School)

 

Computer literacy, the Internet, digital media/video and Appleworks. Specific help areas for teachers are the Apple iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD), powerful "media rich" presentations, and graphics software.
