Linville-Edom Elementary School teachers present at Virginia State Reading Conference in Alexandria, Virginia

On February 20th, Karen Ridder, reading specialist, and Margaret Alger, library media specialist, led a concurrent session titled Boys and Books: A Grand Slam! This presentation discussed research related to boys and their reading habits. They also showed classroom strategies that engage reluctant readers, and offered great new titles for classrooms and libraries. Examples from their own experience as resource teachers was shared, as well as lively discussion from the participants about best practices that work.

The presentation was attended by elementary teachers, reading specialists, librarians and administrators. By special invitation, Karen and Margaret were consequently asked to participate in the Children's Literature Conference held in July at Shenandoah University. We are very excited to share this topic with other schools and educators.
