JCMES 4th Grader Wins Essay Contest About Teacher
In 250 words, JCMES 4th grader Emily Lambert painted a pretty clear picture of what she liked about her teacher, Mr. Scott Showalter. The words were vidid enough to convince the Harrisonburg branch of the Massanutten Regional Library to select Mr. Showalter as the area's Honored Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Showalter with Emily and her parents, Annabel and Steven Lambert"I had no idea, this was such a shock," Mr. Showalter, 25, of Broadway told the Daily News-Record. "It means a lot."
"We are so fortunate to have Scott Showalter at our school. He teaches his students that even though some students may act or look differently, it's what is on the inside that matters, and that caring and kindness are important qualities to have in life. He makes our school a better place," praised JCMES Principal, Mrs. Sandy Cupp.
John C. Myers Elementary School receives $500 for its first prize entry.

Why My Teacher Is Special To Me by Emily Lambert, John C. Myers Elementary School, 4th Grade Mr. Showalter is my favorite teacher because he makes learning fun! He dresses up as historical characters. On pirate day, he dressed up as a pirate. He was Abraham Lincoln too. He also lets us role-play people. We have Fun Friday. We spin a wheel to earn shillings. We can earn outings to the movies, golf, roller skating and other stuff. His room is cool. Once we were learning about Virginia's rivers and he laid paper rivers all over the floor. He gives almost everyone in the school birthday cards. He makes our families cards too. When we have gym, art, and music, he comes with us. He is usually on my team in gym. He's an amazing teacher. Every kid wants him. He went to Turner Ashby High School and Bridgewater College. A funny fact is he and his college friends painted their chests for football games. He is very tall. He even rode a donkey in donkey basketball! He has a funny girlfriend named Kristina. She is nice. He gives us encouraging notes. He gives us rewards if we get A's, B's and C's on tests. He has awards every week. They are Science Award, Social Studies Award, Compassion Award, Family of the Week, Golden Cell Phone, Math Award and Reading Award. Mr. Showalter is fun loving and good hearted. He is a great person! |
