Noteworthy Accomplishments

The Rockingham County School Board is very proud of numerous accomplishments of our school division.  As a team, we have built solid and lasting relationships with our Board of Supervisors and our community at large.  Nine of our most noteworthy accomplishments are listed below.

  1. Continuous strong academic performance in Virginia “Standards of Learning” and Federal “No Child Left Behind” accountability programs.  We believe we are a state leader in curricular and instructional programming.
  2. The retention of high quality personnel is a prerequisite for success in this division.  From the office of the Superintendent, to Central Office staff, to principals and teachers, and to every food service worker, clerk, bus driver and custodian, there is a commitment to quality gained through a spirit of cooperation and work ethic.
  3. A strong, trusting and open relationship of mutual respect has long been present between the Superintendent and School Board.
  4. There is a presence of a wide array of programs available to help underachieving students.
  5. We have worked diligently to construct regionally competitive salary scales for all of our employees.
  6. As a growing school division, we have worked with the Board of Supervisors to continually expand our base of school infrastructure through planning, communication, and coordination.
  7. We believe that our focus on Character Counts and Student Code of Conduct have resulted in a more effective and responsive student body.
  8. We seek to be fiscally responsible while striving to be innovative and resourceful.  We are very proud of the fact that for eleven consecutive years, our school budget request has been funded by the Board of Supervisors.  This is only accomplished by mutual respect for budget processes and trust built between the two elected Boards.
  9. We believe the School Board regularly seeks and provides an open conversation related to the school system with our community.  Formal public hearings and informational community meetings have been held throughout the school system to discuss building plans, student issues such as Code of Student Conduct and dress codes, redistricting issues, and other matters of public concern.  The local media have often noted the openness and responsiveness of the School Board with respect to public concern.
