RCPS Teachers Achieve NETS*T Certification
Congratulations to the following RCPS teachers who have completed the arduous process of becoming certified by the Shenandoah Valley Technology Consortium (SVTC) as meeting the NETS*T standards for integrating technology into classroom instruction. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has created National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T). These standards promote effective technology integration in the classroom and define the fundamental concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes for applying technology in educational settings. In addition to these teachers, a number of other RCPS teachers are currently working toward obtaining their certification.
By achieving NETS*T certification, each teacher earned funds for technology hardware or software for his/her classroom. Funds for this initiative are from a No Child Left Behind Ed-Tech grant awarded to the Consortium. RCPS teachers have used these funds for the purchase of laptops, projection systems, digital cameras and camcorders, SmartBoards, etc.
The process involves submitting "artifacts" which exemplify each of the twenty-three NETS*T standards. These artifacts are reviewed by SVTC evaluators. For a full description of the process, visit the SVTC-EdTech website: http://www.svtc-edtech.org/
SVTC sponsors many other opportunities for teachers to enhance their use of technology in the classroom, including the National Teacher Training Institute (NTTI) held twice yearly. RCPS is one of 20 school divisions actively participating in this Consortium.
