Press Release February 9, 2001

The "Luck Stone Rock" has arrived in the elementary schools in Rockingham County. Luck Stone, a privately held company, began developing "The Luck Stone Rock" in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia's public schools, universities, museums, and private industry two years ago.

It is a hands-on teaching aid that is being used with fifth grade students in Rockingham County. The kit consists of 22 large samples of rocks found in Virginia, guided learning activities related to the study of the rocks, and a professionally produced, interactive CD geared especially for students in the upper elementary grades. The CD contains a wealth of information about rocks and the geology of Virginia in an engaging and entertaining format.

Luck Stone has generously underwritten the production costs of this program and is supplying each of the thirteen elementary schools in Rockingham County with "The Luck Stone Rock" and enough CD's to enable an entire class to interact with the program in each school's computer lab.

According to Sandy Cain, Public Relations Specialist, "Luck Stone is thrilled to provide students with a fun and exciting way to learn about Virginia Geology."
