Philadelphia Eagle, Akeem Jordan, Speaks to EMS Students

The Philadelphia Eagles' Akeem Jordan (at left) visited Elkton Middle School recently to speak to students there as a part of a "Choices" assembly. The former Harrisonburg High School and James Madison University football standout came as a surprise to the Elkton students who were excited to see the NFL player and hear his message to them.

He spoke to the students about hurdles he has overcome and the difficult road he has faced to realize his dream to become an NFL player.

He was joined in the assembly by Anthony Streiff (at right), a 1996 graduate of Fort Defiance High School, who was injured seriously as a passenger in a car with a friend, the driver in the accident, who was unknowingly drunk. He spoke poignantly to them about his own experiences, encouraging them to make good choices. Anthony now heads the new Boys & Girls Club at Elkton Elementary School.

The assembly also included skits, performed by the Elkton Middle School's 7th and 8th Grade Drama Club led by sponsor, Angie Deane, that focused on making good decisions regarding drugs, gangs and bullying.
