Your Day at School - 2009

October 12, 2009
August, 2009: Presentation proposals were sought from teachers, administrators, and others. Click here to see the online proposal form. A total of 158 proposals were received and accepted.
Early September, 2009: The 158 proposals were listed on the RCPS website for teachers to select from and preregister. Click here to see the web page they selected from. Teachers were asked to schedule six 50-minute periods of inservice plus some alternate sessions. Note that the presenters include many RCPS administrators and outstanding teachers and groups of teachers as well as representatives from JMU, UVA, WVPT, Rosetta Stone, Houghton Mifflin, Promethean, Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District, RMH Wellness Center, First Tee of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County, Ag in the Classroom, and other local organizations and companies including the RCPS School Board.
Mid September, 2009: 1,207 teachers, administrators, student teachers, and assistants registered online. Click here to see the registration form.
Early October, 2009: With Oskar Scheikl's expertise, SASI, our former student information system software, was used to develop the master schedule of 263 classes from the 8,385 session requests. Then, the 1,207 participants were scheduled into sessions and schedules printed for each which were distributed to schools on October 6. Click here to see master schedule. Nearly every available room at Turner Ashby High School was used. A total of 17 computer labs were employed: 9 of the existing TAHS labs plus 8 temporary labs set up by the RCPS Technology Staff.
October 12, 2009: Your Day at School! took place. A special addition to YDAS this year was the Benefits and Community Information Fair which featured over 50 exhibitors. Click here to see the list of exhibitors. This fair was a cooperative effort of the RCPS Human Resources Department and the Rockingham Education Foundation, Inc. A delicious lunch, offered in two shifts this year, was provided to all attendees by the RCPS Food Service staff.
Mid October, 2009: Particpants to complete online evaluation of Your Day at School. Click here to see evaluation instrument. Evaluations received to date indicate a high level of satisfaction with the quality of the professional development, the lunches provided, and the overall program and organization.
