County and City 5th Graders Visit MTC

Submitted by Marianne LaRocco, MTC's Assistant Director for Marketing and Programs

"Massanutten Technical Center is cool!"

That is the general consensus this month at MTC as we welcome 5th grade students from the city and county schools. In October, all 5th grade students from Harrisonburg City and Rockingham County take a Career Field trip to MTC. The students have an opportunity to view four of our programs during their morning or afternoon visit. We know it is never too early for children to think about their future. Once in middle school, students will begin to plan their course of studies and it is then they can indicate their desire to learn a career skill at Massanutten Technical Center.

It appears that our MTC students enjoy the 5th grade field trips as much as our visitors. In all of our classes, our students act as 'tour guides' and get invovlved with the 5th graders to show all the fun - and educationa l- things they can do at MTC. Our students enjoy being the teacher for the day while they demonstrate the skills they have learned.

We hope that all of our visitors will bring their parents back to our Open House on November 1. On Monday, November 1, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at our Open House, parents and students can tour all 20 Career Programs and all can discover just how "cool" it is at Massanutten Technical Center.
