EMS Students Become Superintendents for a Day
Submitted by JoEllen Perry, Guidance Counselor, Elkton Middle School

As part of the Career Pathways Showcase held at Elkton Middle School in November, students were given the opportunity to apply to be "Superintendent for a Day." Interested students had to complete a questionnaire indicating what they would like to share with RCPS Superintendent, Dr. Carol Fenn, and what skills were important for such a leadership career. After reading the applications, Dr. Fenn selected four students to join her at central office to see first hand what being a school superintendent is all about.
Sixth grade students Madison Whitfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Whitfield, and Christin Hensley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Hensley are shown (above) sharing information with Dr. Fenn. Madison and Christin both described their day as lots of fun and they felt they learned a lot about technology and how important it is to the Rockingham County Public School System. Joining Dr. Fenn on a separate visit were eighth grade student Tripp Kirby, son of Ed Kirby, and seventh grade student Gabbrial Conley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Derrick Conley. Thank you Dr. Fenn for offering such a wonderful opportunity for our students.
