Library-Related Student Organizations

WSPMS Kneedleworking Knight Readers

Recommended Supplies

Straight knitting loom (not round)
Knitting needles (size 8; approx 10-inches)
Basic acrylic worsted yarn

Our librarian, Ms. Butler, sponsors this club for students who either know how to knit or want to learn how to knit. The goal is to knit and listen to recorded books. Club members must bring their knitting supplies on club days in order to attend the monthly meetings. As a service project, the Kneedleworking Knight Readers will knit neck scarves to donate to soldiers stationed in Afghanistan and/or to the local Salvation Army.

Literary Club

The WSPMS Library sponsors the Literary Club for students. Students are encouraged to read and write for pleasure. Planned activities include:

  • Guest speakers at meetings (authors and/or illustrators)
  • Writing short book reviews
  • "Book Talks"
  • Creating posters to promote Virginia Readers' Choice nominees
  • Poetry readings
  • Virginia Readers' Choice Award celebration

Book Fair Crew

The Student Book Fair Crew helps to plan and execute the school's annual Scholastic Book Fair. Visit the WSPMS Library for an application to serve on the Book Fair Crew.
