The purpose of this careers class is to stimulate interest in future plans for employment and to provide students with a realistic view of skills needed in the workplace.

Listed below are the 5 beginning career clusters which Rockingham County suggests for 6th graders.

• Introduce the Career Clusters and give examples of each.

• Review the Career Clusters
• Create a new personal account at Kuder.com
• Take the Kuder Skills Assessment
• When you are finished with the 90 questions skills assessment, you will see a bar graph that will show you which career clusters match up with your interests. Print out the graph.

Lesson 3

• Complete the Worksheet "The Great Job Hunt". Turn in to the teacher.
• Complete the Worksheet "Who's driving that Car". Turn in to the teacher.

Lesson 4

• Complete the Interests Survey, "Are You Positively Charged" to find out if you are a positive person. Next, find out what your interests are by taking a Self Evaluation Test. Print out.
• Play "The Job Trek Game". Answer The Job Trek Questions. Turn-in to the teacher.
• Complete the Jobs Jumble Worksheet. Turn-in to the teacher.

Lesson 5

• You have done a skills Assessment at Kuder.com, and interests survey, and played The Job Trek Game. use them to help you research and complete the Career Possibilities Worksheet. Use the Department of Labor website to gather information.

Lesson 6

• Read the Article "The Characteristics of a Good Employee."
• Answer the Character Questions about the article. Turn in to the teacher.
• Complete the worksheet "Look Out--It's a Giant Ophthalmoscope!"

Lesson 7

• Assignment. Interview someone about their job. complete the Interview Worksheet.
