March 2012--Verizon issue seems to be resolved
Rockingham County Public Schools has found what we believe to be a solution to the Verizon issue posted below last year. All Verizon cell phones now registered with our notification system receive alert messages in a timely fashion. Verizon did not provide a suitable solution to this problem but the RCPS Tech Staff was able to make changes in how the alerts are sent out which seem to work satisfactorily with Verizon cell phones.
January 2011--Text Messages not delivered in a timely fashion to Verizon customers
Some parents/patrons who registered with Rockingham County Public Schools to receive notices of school delays or cancellations are not being notified in a timely fashion. As of January, 2011, there are over 5,200 addresses registered with RCPS. Over 1,700 of these are Verizon cellular phone numbers (e.g., 5405551234@vtext.com). Some Verizon texts are not being delivered until over an hour after the listserv is "triggered" to deliver the messages. E-mails and texts to other cellular providers are being delivered within minutes of the trigger. Rockingham County Public Schools has made Verizon aware of this issue and will work with them to solve it.
