The Technology Plan Update for Rockingham County Public Schools

Goals

The following goals remain from previous Technology Plans (though some of the examples listed were updated):

GOAL #1: TEACH STUDENTS ABOUT TECHNOLOGY

RCPS must equip students with basic technological concepts and skills for personal and career success. Students should:

Possess basic skills in the use of technology.
Understand the continuing growth and integration of technology in today's society.
Develop logic and problem-solving strategies using appropriate technologies.
Acquire communication and organizational skills using appropriate technologies.
Understand ethical considerations involving the use of technology.

GOAL #2: TEACH STUDENTS WITH TECHNOLOGY

RCPS must empower teachers with appropriate technology and training so that computer technology will be an integral part of the classroom. Teachers must integrate technology into the teaching/learning process:

As a teaching tool.
As a personal productivity tool.
As a communications tool.
As a personal creativity tool.

GOAL #3: NETWORKING

RCPS must develop networking and telecommunications systems within each individual school, the district, and the global community:

To provide a linkage of information to and from each classroom.
To aid in the instructional process.
To reinforce basic curricular skills and processes.
To aid in the management of administrative services.

GOAL #4: MULTIMEDIA

RCPS must provide current and new forms of multimedia technology to classrooms and labs:

Examples: Videostreaming, projection systems, digital cameras and recorders, teleconferencing equipment, etc.
As tools for technology integration into the teaching/learning environment.
As tools for students to develop critical thinking skills.
As tools for students to explore and extend their creative abilities.

Under each target, the current status of this target for Rockingham County Public Schools has been listed, along with an action plan for RCPS for that target.

The Needs Assessment section lists the greatest technology needs for RCPS. The Duration section of this plan has a timeline for future years which details the RCPS action plan for meeting these needs.
