Discipline Definitions
 
 
 
Tobacco/Substance Abuse/Weapons
 
Tobacco products (including matches and lighters) are strictly prohibited on school property
First Offense: 3 days out-of-school suspension
Second Offense: 5 days out-of-school suspension
Third Offense: 10 days out-of-school suspension and a referral to the Superintendent’s Discipline Committee

Verbal Altercation
 
Use of vulgar, abusive or threatening language or gestures
 
 
 
Vandalism
 
Any willful action that defaces or destroys school or personal property
 
 
 
Unauthorized Absence From Class
 
When a student willfully leaves the instructional setting without authorization
 
 
 
Theft
 
Taking school or personal property that does not belong to you
 
 
 
Tardy
 
A student is not in class when class has begun
 
5 tardies = warning
6 tardies = 1 hour detention
7 tardies = 2 hour detention
8 tardies = parent conference
9 tardies = assignment to Saturday school
10 tardies = TBD (loss of parking privileges, poor school standing, etc.)
 
 
 
 
 
Physical Altercation
 
Use of physical aggressions that inflict or risk bodily harm
 
 
 
Harassment
 
Any action, gesture or language that offends or degrades another individual or group
 
 
 
Failure To Serve Detention
 
Failing to serve a teacher-assigned detention or an administrator- assigned lunch detention will result in one day of Saturday School
 
 
 
Dress Code
 
Rockingham County School Board Policy JFC provides certain examples of dress/attire, which are unacceptable under the terms of Rockingham County Schools’ Code of Responsible Student Conduct.  The listing includes:
 
·      Clothing which exposes undergarments, is immodest, or is worn in an unconventional manner
 
·      Dog collars and chains
 
·      Dress that inflames or defames
 
·      Dress promoting or depicting a drug, tobacco, alcohol, violence, or sexually implicit or explicit
 
 
 
Disrupting Class
 
Any action that interferes with the learning environment to the point that instruction is compromised
 
 
 
Disrespect
 
Any action that displays defiant, uncooperative or insubordinate behavior
 
 
 
Cheating (Honor Code Violation)
 
 
 
 
 
Use Of Cell Phone
 
Any use of cell phone (ringing, text messages, checking of time, talking, games, calculator, taking  pictures, etc.) or pager once student arrives on school property is strictly prohibited until dismissal bell
 
First Offense:  phone confiscated, warning and parent is notified
Second Offense:  phone confiscated, Saturday School assigned and a parent must pick the phone up
Third Offense:  phone confiscated, 3 days out-of-school suspension and student can no longer bring a cell phone to school
 
 
 
Acceptable Use Policy
 
Use of any school materials or technology in a way for which it was not intended
