Library

Welcome to the Turner Ashby High School Library web site. Our mission is to ensure that our students, staff, and community are lifelong readers and effective users of information resources. We believe that the school library should be a pleasant place in which to read, study, work on computers, and/or complete research. Our goal is to help students become socially responsible, information literate, lifelong learners.

The library is open from 7:55 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. daily. The librarians are always available to assist students who need help. We do ask that the following procedures be adhered to while in the library:

  • Please do not have food, drinks, or backpacks in the library.   Place these items on the racks and tables near the library entrances.
  • Please speak softly so that you do not disturb others who are working in the library.
  • Please remember to return all materials on time.

The library is open for use by students during their study halls and their lunch breaks most days. Students need to sign up in the library before school or during the morning break if they wish to come during these times.  In addition, the library will be available for use without signing up before school, at break, and after school until 3:15 P.M., unless there is a meeting in the library.

We have twenty Apple iMac computers with Internet access in the library.  Online databases are available for students to use when doing research. Groliers Multimedia Encyclopedia (Online Passport) is provided by Rockingham County Public Schools. The Gale Databases and eLibrary are provided through the Library of Virginia. These databases are accessibly on all school computers.  The Gale Databases can also be accessed from home computers. Students should see a librarian for passwords.  Students with public library cards can access eLibrary and other resources at home through Find it Virginia. (See Library Links below.)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of the librarians.

Ms. Sue Weaver is assistant librarian and is primarily responsible for the audio visual and computer aspects of the program. We are also fortunate to have a third trained librarian, Mrs. Susan Meadows, as the library clerk.  To contact members of the Library staff, click on the mailbox icons following their names.
