The Tollgate (Rawley Springs) School was located on the
Harrisonburg and Rawley Springs Turnpike (Route 33) about one mile
east of Rawley Springs. It apparently derived its name from its
location near the toll-house for the turnpike. The school was built
on land deeded to the Central District School Board on May 1, 1877 by
Abraham Andes and others. The original building was replaced by a new
one-room frame building about 1902. The Tollgate School was closed in
1930.
