Peak View Elementary School opened in the Fall of 2001 on the Lawyer Road near Penn Laird. When the school opened it brought students from Keezletown Elementary School, which was closed, and also students who attended McGaheysville and South River Elementary Schools

Ed Price, who had previously served as principal at Ottobine, Bridgewater, John Wayland and Keezletown, was chosen to be the school's first principal.
