Kyger School

The Kyger School was built in 1881 on property belonging to Daniel Kyger. The first school operated for two years and was moved to a different location on the same property. The original school was located at the corner of a pasture and the property owner had a problem with gates being left open, allowing his cattle to wander away. The move to the second location solved this problem. The Kyger School was located about one and one half miles south of Montevideo and is indicated but not named in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The Kyger School was one of four small schools closed in 1910 when the Pine Knot School was built. (see also Pineville, Three Springs, Idahoe)
