Cherry Grove

The Cherry Grove School was located on the old Turleytown Road in the northern part of Linville District at Cherry Grove. The original land for the school was deeded to the Linville District School Board by J. C. Moyers and wife and the one-room Cherry Grove school was built in 1882. On January 24, 1883 an additional parcel of land adjoining the original lot was deeded to the school board by James Bush and wife. In 1906 an additional room and belfry was added to the school to provide for a two-room school. The only early teacher known to have taught at Cherry Grove is N. A. Neff, who taught at Cherry Grove in 1890-91. After 1908, a nearly complete list of teachers is available. In 1930, declining school population reduced Cherry Grove to a one-teacher school. The Cherry Grove School closed after the end of the 1933-34 school session.
