Victory Hill School

 

Victory Hill was one of the earliest consolidated schools in Rockingham District. Located on Port Republic road about one mile south of the Keezletown Road, the Victory Hill school opened early in 1909. The school consolidated the two-room school at Mill Creek and the one-room Oak Shade school. The building was a four-room frame building. It was named for its location at the corner of the Cross Keys battlefield. The school offered two years of high school instruction when it first opened but when the new high school was built at Port Republic in 1923, the high school program at Victory Hill was discontinued. The Victory Hill school continued in operation until 1937. Teachers known to have taught at Victory Hill are:
