Trinity School

The Trinity School was one of the oldest schools in Linville District, being constructed about 1870. Trinity was also called the Yancey School because of its location on property belonging to George Yancey. The Trinity building and property was "owned by the community and was used by the school district in consideration of repairs". The Trinity School was located at the northwest corner of the intersection of the road leading east from Melrose (Route 724) and the road leading north from Keezletown. (Route 717) The school lot adjoined the Trinity Church lot on the east side. In Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County, the school is noted as Trinity Academy, meaning that some advanced instruction was available at the school.

On October 20, 1906, property for a new school was deeded to the Linville District School trustees by Martha E. Chapman and husband. This property was located a short distance further east on the same road (Route 724) between the Keezletown Road (Route 717) and the Mountain Valley Road (Route 620). A two-room brick school was built and in operation for the 1906-07 school session. The Trinity School was in operation until 1936 when it was closed and the students were transported to Keezletown.

The only teacher known to have taught at the old Trinity School was Myra Payne, who taught during the 1904-05 school session. Teachers who taught in the 1906 building are:
