Taylor Springs is an early name for what is currently known as
Massanetta Springs. The exact date of construction of the Taylor
Springs School is unknown but the weekly newspaper, The Rockingham
Register, noted that a Mr. A. B. Miller taught at Taylor Springs
during the 1877-78 school year. The school was located on the
Massanetta Springs Road (currently Route 687) approximately where the
Sunnyside Presbyterian Home is now located. The school is shown on
Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County on the east side of the
Massanetta Springs Road. The exact date of closing of the school is
unknown but presumably the school closed after the 1905-06 school
year, the last year that records are available.
