The Sunnyside school was located in Ashby District at Scott's Ford on Middle River. The school was situated on the south side of the road leading from the Keezletown Road. The school is indicated as Sunnyside School #46 in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The school was also known as the Scott's Ford school. The first school was a one-room building constructed in 1881 on land deeded to the Ashby District school trustees by George Baker and wife on May 28, 1881. In 1884 a second room was added and Sunnyside became a graded school with two teachers and an enrollment of 73 pupils. This two-room school served the community until November of 1918 when a new Sunnyside School was constructed by Eutsler Brothers at a cost of approximately $3800. The school was constructed of glazed brick and had three rooms. This school was used until 1930 when the school was closed and the students sent to the newly constructed Timber Ridge school. The school was torn down in 1935 and the materials were used to construct the new agriculture building at McGaheysville High School. Teachers known to have taught at Sunnyside are:
