Very little is known about this early schoolhouse. It is shown on Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County and was located about one and a half miles west of Port Republic near the Ashby District line. The school was located on a road extending from the Harrisonburg-Port Republic Road to the North River (currently Route 670) The land for the school was deeded to the Stonewall District School Board on September 7, 1877 by George H. Saufley and others and presumably the school was opened for the 1877-78 school term.. Records starting about 1900 do not mention the Stoney Creek School so it is presumed that the school closed prior to 1900.
