The Slate Hill School was a one-room school built in 1874 at the
southwest corner of the the Harrisonburg-Broadway road (currently
Route 42) and the Greenmount Road (currently Route 772). The land was
deeded to the Linville District School Board on August 29, 1874 by
Frederick Wampler and wife and opened for the 1874-75 school term.
There are few records available on the Slate Hill School but teachers
known to have taught at Slate Hill were Ben Miller, Joe Wampler, and
Lelia Masters.
The Slate Hill School closed in 1896.
