Salem School

The Salem school was located on the Mountain Valley Road (now Turleytown Road) about one mile north of Singers Glen. The school was located next to the Salem Church and is indicated in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The school and church were located on the west side of the road a short distance north of its intersection with the Frog Hollow Road. The Salem school was a one-room school built in 1882. The land for the school was not deeded to the Linville District school trustees until October 28, 1887, when the land was deeded by Hannah J. Rolston and others. The Salem school was closed in 1898. Teachers known to have taught at Salem were:

1892-93 Joshua Shenk

1893-94 Louis Swank

1894-98 (four sessions) Alice Moubray
