The land for the Port Republic Colored School was deeded to the Stonewall District School Board of November 3, 1881 by A. D. Armentrout and wife. The school was located a short distance east of the railroad depot and is indicated on Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The earliest teachers at the Port Republic Colored School are unknown.
