The Pine Knot school was located in at the western edge of Stonewall District near Pineville (Kyger's Shop). Pine Knot school opened in November of 1910 as a consolidation of the Pineville, Kyger, Three Springs and Idahoe schools. The two-acre lot for the school was purchased from Thomas L Yancey on September 2, 1910 by the Stonewall District school trustees. At the same meeting a contract was awarded to D. F. Hitt and Co. for the construction of a two-room school building at a cost of $1800. The building was to be completed by November 1, 1910. The board also appointed P. B. F. Good as principal and Edna Maiden as assistant. Early school board minutes refer to the school as "Pinewoods" school. Patrons of the community had asked for a three-room building but the board voted to wait until school population justified the additional room. Pine Knot remained a two-room school until 1913 when an additional room was constructed. During the mid-1920s the school population declined to a point of reducing the school back to a two-teacher school. The Pine Knot school was closed in 1937.
