North River (Sorghumville)

The North River School was built in 1872 a short distance north of the the Mount Crawford Depot which was located east of Mt. Crawford in Ashby District. The school was a one-room building, noted on Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County as Sorghumville School #29. The school was built at a cost of $400. The North River School operated until 1918, when the school was closed and the students transported to the new school at Mt. Crawford. Teachers known to have taught at North River:
