Very little is known about this school located on Dry River near Clover Hill in the western section of Ashby District. Bernelle Hill, in a history of Clover Hill school, mentions that this school was one of the schools in the Clover Hill area in 1886. Superintendent George Hulvey mentions in his 1914 book , "The Public Schools of Rockingham County", that "Ashby needs two more four-room buildings--one near the Bank Church to accommodate the Rushville, Coakleytown, Hinton and a small remnant of the old Mt. Vernon school." No record can be found in county school records or deed records of this school. The school is not indicated in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County
