The Lynnwood School was located at Lynnwood about two miles north of Port Republic on the east side of the Shenandoah River and the Shenandoah Valley Railroad tracks. The school was commonly known as the Lewiston School during its early years but later came to be known as the Lynnwood School. Even though the school had operated for several years, the land for the school was not deeded to the Stonewall District School Board by John F. Lewis and others until October 13, 1884. The original building was a one-room school and an additional room was added about 1914. Throughout most of the 1920s the school population did not justify two teachers but by the late 1920s the school was a two-teacher school. During the 1936-37 school year, declining school population required that the school once again become a one-teacher school. The Lynnwood School was closed after that session and the students transported to Port Republic.
