Greenwood Colored School

The Greenwood Colored School was located northwest of Elkton in a small colored settlement named Greenwood. The exact date of construction of the Greenwood School is unknown but it is shown in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The original school was located a short distance west of the main road (Route 602). A new one-room building was constructed about 1900 a short distance west on the east side of Route 602. This school served the community until it was closed in 1944. Teachers known to have taught at Greenwood Colored school are:
