The Dry River school was a one-room school that adjoined the Dry River Church in the western part of Ashby District. The school is indicated in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County on the south side of the road (presently Route 742) to the east of the church. The Dry River School was built in 1884 and closed in 1928. The early teachers at Dry River are unknown. Teachers known to have taught at Dry River are:
