Crossroads School (Central)

 

The Crossroads school in Central District was located at the intersection of the Rockingham Turnpike (currently U. S. 33) and the Indian Trail Road. (Route 620) The school was located in a lot directly opposite the Massanutten Presbyterian Church. The date of construction of the school is unknown but it is indicated in Lake's 1885 Atlas of Rockingham County. The Crossroads school operated until 1910 when it was closed and students sent to the new school at Penn Laird. Teachers known to have taught at the Crossroads school were:
