Combs School

The Combs School is a "mystery" school. It appears on a list of Plains District Schools for 1919-20 with Annie J. Lantz listed as teacher. For 1920-21, a notation is made that the Combs School will be operated by West Virginia. In certification records for that year the school is also indicated as "Crider's " school. The location of the school is unknown and there is no information as to which county, Hardy or Pendleton, would have operated the school. Presumably it was located near the top of the mountain and served both Virginia and West Virginia students. After 1921, the school could have closed completely or could have continued operation as a West Virginia school.
