The Cedar Run school was located southwest of Broadway on what is now Route 912 (Lory Mathias Lane). A one-acre lot was deeded to the Plains District school trustees by Thomas and Annie Lampkins on June 12, 1876 "to be used for free public school purposes" It also contained the clause, very common at the time that "if the use for school purposes ceases then the land would revert to its original owners". A one-room building was constructed and opened for the 1876-77 school year. The Cedar Run school was often referred to as Cedar Run Academy, which meant that it probably offered some higher level (high school or college preparatory) instruction. The only teacher known to have taught at the first Cedar Run school was Newton Neff, who taught at Cedar Run in 1890-91. By 1901, it became necessary to build a new school and a two-room school located next to Cedar Run Church was built. This school continued to serve the Cedar Run community until 1938 when the school was closed. Teachers known to have taught at Cedar Run are:
